IEEE KU Student Branch proudly received the Outstanding Student Branch Award (Honorary Mention) 2024 from the IEEE
Bangladesh Section.
My journey as Chairperson of the IEEE Khulna University Student Branch has been truly transformative. I had the
opportunity to work with an amazing and energetic team, full of passionate individuals dedicated to making an impact.
In 2024, together we planned and executed several remarkable events, including TechFusion 2024, SympSIST 2024, and our
participation in the IEEE SPICSCON Conference.Through these experiences, I learned valuable lessons about leadership,
event planning, teamwork, and perseverance.
Here, I am sharing a few memorable moments from this journey — memories that have shaped my growth both personally and
professionally.
IEEE BD Section Committee Meetup
On August 27, 2024, the IEEE Bangladesh Section held a meeting with the Executive Committee members of the IEEE KU
Student Branch.
During the session, Mr. Shohel Rana, Secretary of the IEEE Bangladesh Section, shared valuable insights and
guidelines for improving the activities of our Student Branch.
His advice on organizing impactful conferences and events truly inspired us. We left the meeting motivated and
equipped with practical strategies to strengthen our future initiatives and further elevate the success of IEEE KU
SB.
On September 2, 2024, we organized a meeting with the Executive Committee of the IEEE KU Student Branch, with the
gracious presence of our esteemed Counselor, Professor Dr. Md. Maniruzzaman.
The meeting served as a crucial platform for strategic planning and coordination. We discussed several key agendas,
including the organization of our upcoming major events IEEE SPICSCON 2024, ProCon 2024, and SympSIST 2024 along
with the
planning of two potential webinars.
During the session, we carefully assigned responsibilities for different segments of the events and distributed the
remaining tasks among the committee members to ensure smooth execution. The meeting fostered a strong sense of
teamwork, accountability, and forward-thinking, setting a clear roadmap for our activities in the coming months.
The event began with a Workshop on Machine Learning held on October 17-18, 2024. This hands-on workshop offered
participants an immersive experience in understanding the core concepts of machine learning. With a special focus on
healthcare applications, the workshop empowered attendees with essential skills in data preprocessing, model
optimization, and advanced techniques like hyperparameter tuning using Optuna. This practical exposure enabled
participants to gain valuable insights that they could apply directly to their research and future projects.
The main event of TechFusion 2024, held on October 26, 2024, brought together a diverse group of students,
researchers, and professionals for a dynamic exploration of machine learning and robotics. One of the key highlights
was the ML Blitz Competition, where participants were tasked with solving real-world problems. This competition
encouraged innovative thinking and technical problem-solving, offering a competitive yet collaborative atmosphere.
Additionally, the Poster Presentation session allowed attendees to share their interdisciplinary ideas,
demonstrating how machine learning can be applied across various fields of science, engineering, and technology.
The event also featured an inspiring Webinar on Robotics, which provided cutting-edge insights into robotics
research and its real-world applications. The webinar emphasized the intersection of innovation and impact, sparking
new ideas and perspectives on how robotics can revolutionize industries and improve lives.
SympSIST 2024, held on November 1, 2024, was a compelling event that focused on the humanitarian
technology and societal impact. Organized by the IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE Society on Social Implications of
Technology, and IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Activities, and co-organized by the IEEE KU Student Branch,
the event brought together thought leaders, practitioners, and students to explore how technology can be leveraged
to address pressing global challenges.
The event featured three engaging workshop sessions, each designed to introduce participants to frameworks for
impactful project ideation and management. These workshops not only provided valuable insights into turning
innovative ideas into actionable plans but also encouraged participants to think critically about how technology can
create tangible, positive change in society.
A major highlight of SympSIST 2024 was the Humanitarian Project Idea Contest and Exhibition, where groundbreaking
solutions were showcased to address challenges such as flood relief, disaster response, and sustainable energy. The
contest provided a platform for participants to present their innovative solutions and collaborate on projects that
could have real-world impacts, further emphasizing the importance of humanitarian-focused technology.
The IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Information, Communication, and Systems (SPICSCON 2024) was
hosted at Khulna University on November 1-2, 2024. This groundbreaking event, sponsored by the University Grants
Commission (UGC) and Spahani, brought together brilliant minds and pioneering ideas from across the globe to explore
the frontiers of technology and innovation in the fields of signal processing, information systems, and
communications.
Organized by the IEEE Bangladesh Section and the IEEE Signal Processing Society, SPICSCON 2024 showcased the latest
research and innovations in these critical areas, with a focus on practical applications and emerging trends. The
conference provided a dynamic platform for experts, researchers, and students to present their work, exchange ideas,
and collaborate on advancing the state of the art in their respective fields.
On March 4, 2024, we organized an informative workshop on IEEE vTools for the members of the IEEE KU Student Branch.
The session was attended by all executive members, general members, and new students, providing them with valuable
insights into the IEEE vTools platform.
During the workshop, we demonstrated key features of vTools, including how to add new committee officers, create and
submit plans, and effectively report on IEEE events. The hands-on session was particularly helpful for our newer
members, offering them a deeper understanding of the internal workings of IEEE and how to leverage vTools for
efficient management and organization of branch activities.
In addition to the vTools workshop, the day also featured the Committee Handover Ceremony, where leadership
responsibilities for the IEEE KU Student Branch were officially passed on to the new chairperson, Towhidul Islam
Nafis. The workshop and ceremony marked an important milestone in the branch's journey
